The singer-songwriter will have an album release show at Maximum Capacity in Chicopee on June 8.
Anything worth doing is worth doing right.
It is an adage often attributed to Hunter S. Thompson and a bit of advice adhered to by local musician Wayne Morphew. He will present his latest work “Spoon Fed America,” with a CD release show at Maximum Capacity in Chicopee on Friday, June 8.
“With the help of my engineer/co producer Rod Warner, I was able to finally get my album done right,” said Morphew, who spent a full year recording the work. “I work very slowly putting together tunes and writing.”
In fact, it has been almost seven years since his last release, “6 Stories” which came on the heels of a more than decade long run as the front man for popular band Drunk In July.
“For the last seven years I have been performing weekly as a solo entertainer around New England and New York City restaurants, bars, weddings, corporate parties, and even a booze cruise in Gloucester,” he said. “All the while slowly putting together this full-length record.”
Morphew says the theme of the work revolves around his opinions on how Americans are targeted by marketing.
“But it’s not really a concept record,” he notes. “It is a collection of personal stories. A handful of sensational musicians contributed to the record but the majority was written and performed by me.”
In an effort to make sure this endeavor worth doing is done right, Morphew booked the Max Cap, signed on friends in Maxxtone and Doug Ratner & The Watchmen to perform on the bill, and aligned himself with the Glorious Unknowns to serve as his backing band.
“I love Max Cap, I love Chicopee, where I'm from, and I wouldn't want to introduce my new rock album and rock band anywhere else,” he said. “I was lucky to find this group of young talent that bleeds passion for my music and rock’ n’ roll.”
The performance begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance for the 21-plus show through waynemorphew.com. CDs will be available at the show and the music is also online through CDbaby.com, Amazon, and iTunes.
Fans can also connect with Morphew through his new, free mobile app.
“Just go to your app store and search my name,” he said. “It has streaming tunes, tour date, news, and pictures.”
