The actress filed to end the five-year marriage.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are calling it quits.
The celebrity couple has decided to end their five-year marriage.
"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," Holmes' publicist said in a statement to People. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
A spokesman for Cruise told the magazine, "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy."
It was Holmes's first marriage and the third for Cruise, who previously was married to actresses Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers. He has two children from his marriage to Kidman.
Cruise, 49, and Holmes, 33, married at an Italian castle in November 2006. They have a 6-year-old daughter Suri.
