Rabbit season?

Duck season!

Yes, it's time for a new season of A&E's popular reality show "Duck Dynasty." On paper, the idea of a show about nothing set in Louisiana among a group of bearded brothers who make duck calls sounds like the last thing most people would watch.

But you obviously haven't been paying attention as reality shows featuring real people - as opposed to space aliens otherwise known as Kardashians - have taken over prime time television. Need proof? Think "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," "Swamp People" and "Storage Wars." Then again, "American Idol," "The Voice" and "Dancing with the Stars" and other fantasy-like reality shows remain the big boys of reality television.

But perhaps what makes "Duck Dynasty" different from other reality shows as well is the Robertson family was doing just fine before they were plastered on television. They created a successful, multi-million-dollar duck calling business from scratch. And they love to have fun, whether it's racing lawn tractors or giving advice on teenage dating.

Whatever they're up to, America seems to be watching. And if America didn't, the Robertsons could probably care less - unlike some Beverly Hills air heads who seem obsessed with being watched. Which is probably why "Duck Dynasty" has struck a cord with so many people who don't live in Louisiana or look like they're a member of a ZZ Top cover band.

"Duck Dynasty" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on the A&E network.
