The superhero is leaving the newspaper business in a single bound and may become an online journalist.

Superman.jpg Clark Kent will quit The Daily Planet in the upcoming Superman No. 13.

Ever since Superman made his debut in Action Comics in 1938, the Man of Steel's secret identity has been newspaper reporter Clark Kent at The Daily Planet.

But in the upcoming Superman No. 13, a disenchanted Kent leaves his job at The Daily Planet,  presumably to embark on an online career.

"Great Caesar's ghost!" as Daily Planet editor Perry White would holler.

DC issued the following statement about the change in the Superman mythology.

"Clark Kent, after a heated discussion with Morgan Edge (the owner of The Daily Planet's parent company, Galaxy Broadcasting), leaves his position as a reporter at The Daily Planet. This is the beginning of a multi-faceted storyline that will challenge Clark on all levels - personally and professionally, as both himself and as Superman. This is not the first time in DC Comics history that Clark Kent has left the Planet, and this time the resignation reflects present-day issues - the balance of journalism vs. entertainment, the role of new media, the rise of the citizen journalist, etc. Over the next several issues, readers will enjoy the many surprises in store for Clark, as the "H'el on Earth" storyline unfolds."

Kent worked as a TV anchorman at Galaxy Broadcasting some 30 years ago, but later returned to the newsroom of The Daily Planet.

DC Comics has tweaked the Superman storyline in recent years. In a recent reboot, the love affair and marriage to Lois Lane has disappeared. The Man of Steel has hooked up with Wonder Woman.
