With Halloween approaching, here is five reasons to love one of the scariest shows on television.

TV Review-Walking Dead Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes "The Walking Dead."

Zombie apocalypse? Count me in. Whether it’s George Romero’s landmark flicks or dark comedies like “Zombieland,” I cannot get enough of these flesh-eating fiends. With Halloween approaching, here is five reasons to love “The Walking Dead.”

Andrew Lincoln – The English actor has transformed deputy sheriff Rick Grimes, a kind family man, into an often ruthless leader who dispatches the living and the undead to protect those around him.

Gritty – It’s impossible to imagine broadcast television airing a weekly so relentlessly dark with lead characters doubting whether life is worth living.

The annoying kid – Carl Grimes, played by 13-year-old Chandler Riggs, takes too many risks. A T-shirt at Hot Topic depicts the youngster with the often heard parental warning, “Carl, Stay inside the house!”

True to the source material – Comic books, excuse me, graphic novels, often are ruined by Hollywood. The AMC series is faithful in tone and spirit to the work of Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard.

Best diet aid on television – Between heads being cleaved by machetes, arrows through eye sockets and brains blown to bits, its impossible to snack during “The Walking Dead.”
