STORRS, Conn. — The University of Connecticut's student radio station plans a live broadcast of a Martian invasion next week.

UConn students and members of the Windham Theatre Guild will participate in the adaptation of the radio play "The War of the Worlds," which will air live on WHUS-FM on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The original version, which was directed and narrated by Orson Wells, was aired on Oct. 30, 1938 and caused panic in the New York metropolitan area, where some listeners thought the invasion was real.

The WHUS adaptation will have the invasion of Earth beginning on the UConn campus in Storrs. University President Susan Herbst is set to make a cameo appearance in the broadcast.
