Inspired by the recent “American Music Awards,” we put out our annual call for local musicians to submit their work for the 2012 LiveWire Awards.
Justin Bieber was the big winner at the 40th edition of the AMAs earning top honors as “Artist of the Year,” along with the nod for pop / rock male artist and pop / rock album of the year for his work “Believe.”
The awards, represented by a glass pyramid-like trophy, are based on a combination of sales, video views, and social media activity for an artist. Fans also vote on their favorite artists and works.
The LiveWire Awards are slightly less involved when it comes to submission, tabulations, and actual trophies. While this column is dedicated year round to highlighting the work of local artists, we think acknowledging those who have put together solid recordings should be recognized even further with this annual list of the best CDs.
The only requirement we have is that it was recorded in the calendar year (2012) and was produced locally on a local budget.
Last year a collection of veteran Valley performers highlighted our awards with recordings by Jim Armenti, Susan Angeletti, and The Stone Coyotes all being recognized. The deadline for submission is Dec. 27 and the winners will be announced in the Jan. 10 edition of this column. Even if your work has already been featured in a LiveWire column, please submit another specifically for the LiveWire Awards.
