SPRINGFIELD – The Spirit of Springfield will celebrate Military Night Nov. 28 from 5 to 9 p.m. when active military and spouses with valid identification will be welcome to enjoy three miles of holiday lighting displays free of charge, courtesy of Columbia Gas of Massachusetts.
They will be greeted by Maj. Gen. L. Scott Rice, Massachusetts National Guard Adjutant General; officers from 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base, Westfield; Sheila Dioron of Columbia Gas of Massachusetts; Spirit of Springfield President Judith Matt; members of the Springfield Activities Veterans Committee; Cathedral High National Honor Society and students from St. Joan of Arc in Chicopee.
Springfield Rotary Club will have free books for all the soldiers’ children and Yankee Candle will have “Car Jars” for all who come out for Military Night.
“Military Night is just a little something that the Spirit of Springfield and the community can give back the officers and soldiers who leave their families, homes and jobs to protect our freedom,” said Matt in a prepared statement. “We expect hundreds of families to join us from as far away as Maine.”
