10. 'The Bachelor' Week 7: Rachel Truehart of Southampton gets dumped: Poor local girl, Rachel Truehart got her heart broken and was dumped off the show, but our readers found her story compelling enough to get her into our top 10 stories of the year.
9. Without Jerry Lewis, MDA telethon failed to collect half of pledges: When the Muscular Dystrophy Association cut Jerry Lewis from their annual telethon, they unwittingly cut their donations in half as well.

Jonathan Frid, played Barnabas Collins on 'Dark Shadows,' dead at 87: The exterior of one of the Newport Mansions stood in for the television soap opera's castle, and we all came to love the main character Barnabas. Sadly, although his character was immortal, Jonathan Frid was not. Our love for the show however, is also immortal and Jonathan Frid will live on when we remember those afternoons spent watching him and the Collins family after school.
7. Sitar restaurant in downtown Springfield closes its doors: A Springfield institution that kept our downtown offices smelling fabulous on a daily basis closed their doors and left us all wanting more.
