You wouldn't think a decade of being rubbed the wrong way would be pleasurable. But for fans of the independent Northampton music label, Rub Wrongways Records, it's been nothing but a delight.

The label, along with one of its main acts, The Fawns, co-celebrate their 10th anniversaries on Saturday at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton.

The label was started by Henning Ohlenbusch who plays both with his partner Lesa Bezo in The Fawns, as well as heading up his own band, School for the Dead. The label also includes other acts such as the Salvation Alley String Band, Goldwater, Sitting Next to Brian, the Aloha Steamtrain, and Bourgeois Heroes.

But much like the famed Elephant 6 group that contained such acts as Neutral Milk Hotel, Apples in Stereo, and Olivia Tremor Control, Rub Wrongways is not just a label. It also is a music collective and songwriting collaborative as well as maybe "a support group" as Ohlenbusch puts it.

Over the past decade, the label has issued 13 full-length albums, five EPs and three singles. In 2013 the label will put out five new full-length albums.

As far as The Fawns go, the band may have only put out two albums since its inception a decade ago, but the group has toured all over the country, including shows in the south and the west, as well as playing countless shows here in New England. In addition, dozens of artists contributed to a 29-track album tribute to the songs of Lesa Bezo and the Fawns last year. Among these artists were Mark Mulcahy, Ray Mason Lord Russ, Jim Armenti, and members of Winterpills, as well as Spouse.

The 10th anniversary celebration kicks off at 10 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. The Iron Horse is at 20 Center St. in Northampton.

Scouting Report

If you're looking for something to do on Monday nights, stop by Geraldine's in West Springfield for Tim Alfano's acoustic jam. The club also features free pool and ping pong on Mondays. Geraldine's is at 1501 Elm St.

A note of congratulation is in order for Cloud 9 Productions, which runs the pub trivia I attend each Thursday. Last week, quizmaster extraordinaire Chris Bigelow announced that the 2012 contests had raised $11,387 dollars for various charities over the year. Almost more amazingly, this brought the night's five-year charity total to $46,368. Not bad for a night that started out with four or five teams, but which has now grown to about 30 per week. Cheers to Chris and all those who participate.
