The Academy Awards gave the cold shoulder to James Bond on his 50th anniversary.
A few hours ago Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone broke the uncomfortable news: The Oscars are still out of touch with the films that movie-goers love.
Sure, there was a lot of love for Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" with 12 nominations, but superspy James Bond was given the cold shoulder.
The Bond franchise turned 50 with the most successful entry in its blockbuster series – directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes to boot. There was no nod for best picture or even a nomination for Javier Bardem as best supporting actor.
Likewise, respected director Christopher Nolan capped his highly successful Batman trilogy with "The Dark Knight Rises." It was the second biggest movie of the year and had critical praise to boot. Nolan was ignored. Go figure.
We won't even get into Joss Whedon's "The Avengers," which gave Hollywood its most successful year at the box office.
And the Academy demonstrated its short memory once again
Remember all of the fanfare surrounding "The Master" a few months back? Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Amy Adams all received acting nominations, but the film failed to earn a nomination for best picture.
