It was seen in more than 40 countries on Jan. 14, 1973, but not the United States because it was Super Bowl Sunday. It aired three months later in the U.S.

The album taken from the broadcast was Elvis’ first No. 1 disc since 1965. It was also the first quadrophonic album to top the charts.

A Jan. 12 rehearsal concert was taped in the event there was a problem with the live broadcast.

“Aloha from Hawaii” was the most expensive entertainment special, up to that time, with a production cost of $ 2.5 million.
