Well, it’s about to arrive…Nemo. Expected to be one of the northeast’s worst snowstorms on record, Nemo will move in on us tomorrow and into Saturday. While everyone’s flocking to the grocery stores and stocking up on the usual staples, we’d like to suggest some other items that will probably make it easier to ride out this storm. Here are 5 Great provisions…

1. Chocolate and other handmade specialty candies will definitely put you in a better mood when you come in from shoveling, and it might be a good idea to stock up in advance by visiting Richardson’s Candy Kitchen in Deerfield. Each morning they melt and temper solid chocolate to make more than 35 different candies, including their famous Dixies. Try the fudge for a real treat. Oh…they also make sugar-free candies if you’d like to cut back on the calories.

2. Take advantage of being cooped up with a loved one and come home with a gift basket from Frigo’s in Springfield. The “Old World Italian” basket is brimming with panettone, amarettini cookies, biscotti, torreones, asiago, fontina, parmesan, or provolone, salami, pepperoni, and casaling or sopressata meats. The “Frigo Feast” basket has the best pasta, gourmet sauce, cookies, cheese and meats Italy has to offer. They’ll also put together custom baskets for whatever you’re craving!

3. If you’d like a touch of the grape or grain while you’re waiting out the storm, stop by Table & Vine in West Springfield where you can peruse more than 4,000 varieties of wine, over 2,700 spirits and 1,700 domestic, imported, micro and craft-brewed beers. They’ve got one of the world’s largest temperature-controlled wine cellars, as well as a wide variety of Cognacs, Armagnacs and single-malt whiskies. Browse their huge assortment of microbrewery and imported lagers and ales from the world’s best known brewers to the smallest, local brewers located right here in the Pioneer Valley.

4. Looking for takeout? Want some fresh ideas about great area restaurants? Check out www.dinebestforless.com for info about restaurants that you can patronize for delicious takeout before the storm hits. They also offer promotional gift certificates directly from local restaurants to you in a downloadable format to be used at your discretion, so you can experience great savings while you’re trying new things. Win/win!

5. If you’re all set for food and drink…and you’d like to stock up on other items to distract you, visit the Odyssey Bookshop in South Hadley and grab a best seller to while away the hours. Celebrating its 50th year, the Odyssey is a local legend and a rarity in the book business; a family-owned business that is still going strong and has a faithful following. They also feature a year-round roster of literary events and the Signed First Edition Club, where each month club members receive a signed First Edition of a newly-published book selected by the Odyssey for its literary merit and potential collectability.

No matter how you spend your time during the storm…stay warm and SAFE!
