One of the most beloved of American films, the 1942 wartime adventure won three Academy Awards
“Casablanca,” widely regarded as one of the greatest love stories of Hollywood’s golden age, will screen at 7 p.m. on Valentine’s Day at Amherst Cinema.
The Oscar winner stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in the roles of two lovers forced to choose between love and virtue in unoccupied Africa during World War II. The film also features Paul Henreid, Claude Rains, Conrad Veidt, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre, and Dooley Wilson.
In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Amherst Cinema Members can bring a guest to “Casablanca” at the Member price ($6.50). All other tickets are regular admission. Tickets for Thursday’s screening are available at the Amherst Cinema box office or online www.amherstcinema.org

Set in the Vichy-controlled Moroccan city of Casablanca, Rick Blaine (Bogart) is the owner of a nightclub in December 1941. He must choose between winning back the love of his life (Bergman) and aiding her Czech Resistance leader husband (Henreid).
Produced by Hal Wallis, the Warner Bros. release was directed by Michael Curtiz, whose other screen credits included “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” “ Yankee Doodle Dandy” and “Mildred Pierce.”
“Casablanca” was based on Murray Burnett and Joan Alison’s then-unproduced play “Everybody Comes to Rick’s.”
