A number of mountains are offering two-for-one deals for skiers and snowboarders.
Valentine's Day is not just for lovers, it is also for skiers and snowboarders.
To celebrate the holiday a number of areas are celebrating the holiday and the good conditions brought from this weekend’s snowstorm by holding special events including a mass marriage ceremony where a number of people will gather on the slopes to either say “I Do” or renew their vows in front of a justice of the peace. So far 16 couples have signed up to renew their vows and another planning to marry on the top of Mount Snow. Last year three couples married for the first time on the mountain, said David Meeker, spokesman for Mount Snow.
The couples who are renewing their vows will gather around a heart painted in the snow at the top of the mountain. The justice of the peace will officiate the weddings separately in the summit lodge, he said.
“It is something we came up last year we have a great venue and summer time is popular for wedding so we thought why not,” he said. “People like it so we plan to do it every year.”
A number of areas are offering special deals for the holiday and some are combining it with the long President’s Day weekend.
Other events are just for fun, like the running of the bridesmaids at Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow, Vt., where skiers and riders are encouraged to wear that bridesmaid’s dress or tuxedo they never thought they would put on again and hit the slopes in their formal wear.
Several areas including Sugarbush Resort in Warren, Vt. and Catamount in Egremont are offering $14 tickets. Mad River Glen also in Warren, Vt., is also offering $14 tickets but it comes with a hitch – customers must find a partner and kiss in the ticket office for the deal.
Bromley Mountain in Vermont is offering two tickets for the price of one on Valentines day but people have to download a 2-for-1 coupon from the resort website. Killington is offering two tickets for $99 but they must be purchased online by midnight Wednesday.
Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, Mass., is doing it big. In an attempt to make the slopes festive, the mountain is offering $10 off the lift ticket of anyone who wears a red outer layer that is visible when they are skiing. It is also offering a special $40 dinner for two at the Black Diamond Restaurant at the base of the ski area.
Attitash Mountain in New Hampshire says Valentines is for lovers and good conditions after most areas saw more than a foot of snow on the weekend. On Feb. 14 it will offer 2 tickets for $63 for all lovers. Unlike Mad River, it’s OK if skiers and riders are just friends to qualify for the special.
