Biggest Loser: 'Working Together' and the friction it causes

The Biggest Loser this week is about working together. When people come together some find common ground and others want to hurt each other. And all of that and more (including romance) happens at The Ranch this week.

The Biggest Loser opened up this week with chatting around the kitchen table. We learned that Jeff and Francelina have a close bond having both gained lots of weight after losing a parent. It really made me think about my Mom. Prior to my Mom passing in June 2009 I had lost a significant amount of weight -- 80 pounds. Unfortunately I then broke my ankle and put it all – plus 30 pounds – back on.

Literally a few weeks before my Mom went in the hospital I had signed up for a personal trainer to attempt to get my health back. I had no idea how sick my Mom was when she went into the hospital. We lost her just two short weeks later. This completely derailed me from weight-loss plan. Over the past three and a half years I allowed my grief to be an excuse for my eating. The food helped to keep the pain stuffed inside.

As you probably know by now I have used the last five months to start getting healthy with the goal of wanting to have a baby. I get very emotional because I know my Mom wanted to be a Grandma so badly. I was never able to give her that gift. The thought of trying to conceive scares me tremendously. I have never been able to be successful with my weight loss and keep it off. What if I am not able to keep it off to have a baby? What if we try to get pregnant and are not able? What if I am not a good mother if I do get pregnant? What if? What if? I cannot stop thinking of the “what ifs”.

Thank goodness for the mouths of babes. On this week's 'Biggest Loser' the teenager Sunny said, “You do make mistakes and when you do you have to pick yourself up and keep going.” WOW, so much wisdom from a seventeen year old. When I heard her say this I realized I needed to allow myself to make mistakes. To know that this process of trying to conceive is going to be scary, not only when I go through it, but also when I work on losing the weight leading up to it.

In this episode, Allison announced this week it is possible to win immunity for all. If the seven people left on the Ranch lose 70 pounds as a group they are all safe. If not, there is a red line and one automatically goes home. She did decide to give them a chance to lower their goal weight with a Pop Challenge in which the kids (Bingo, Sunny, and Lindsay) were invited back. ONLY the kids would play in the quiz. It was a two part quiz. The first was five questions and for every correct answer a pound comes off the goal. The second was five exercises and for every one they completed better than last time they did them an additional pound will come off the goal. They ended up getting 4 out of 5 of the questions correct and 5 out of 5 exercises done faster. The contestants ended up with a 9 pound advantage and now needed just 61 pounds as a group.

There was SO much friction in the gym. Gina got mad at Joe and walked out of the gym. Dolvett believes she just “looks for excuses” to give up. Jillian was in a foul mood, first starting with Alex and then pushing Gina to the edge. Gina ends up walking out of the gym AGAIN and this time does not come back. Jillian, Bob and Dolvett get into it. Bob ends up consoling Gina. Jill and Alex make up. In my opinion Gina is such an unbelievable drama queen! Don't you agree?

Next up was the challenge, which, after digging through sand piles and Joe helping the injured Gina, they were able to win an additional ten pounds off goal weight. Now they needed 51 pounds as a team.

I was very excited to hear Seventeen magazine is working to help young people look at their body differently and get healthy. They have the “Seventeen Body Peace Treaty”. To read more click here.

SPOILER ALERT - Weigh in

The group needs 51 pounds to all have immunity

  • Danni who was trying to go under 200 pounds -7. Hitting 'ONE-derland' as they call it on the ranch with 194
  • Joe -6
  • Jackson -5
  • Alex -3
  • Jeff -4
  • Gina -4
  • Francelina needs three pounds to be safe -2

Being just one pound short, Francelina goes home. My fiancée is convinced it’s her hair. She thinks if she cut her hair she could have hit a three –. The best news was during Francelina’s recap. She is doing amazingly well and has lost enough to pursue her dream of going to medical school. Even better than that, she and Jeff are dating.

Yeah, we love 'Biggest Loser' love!
