A chance meeting with Steven Tyler, and a simple article of clothing, made Sturbridge's Kerry McCormick an international sensation.
One of the biggest stories in New England this week has been Sunday’s pregame festivities at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.
Steven Tyler’s rendition of the National Anthem made national news. The fly-over involving the C-5 crew from Westover was also front page news.
Now we’re all familiar with the old saying that at one time or another everybody enjoys their 15 minutes of fame.
Well a chance meeting with Steven Tyler, and a simple article of clothing, made Sturbridge’s Kerry McCormick an international sensation.
“I actually went into Dunkin Donuts the other day and I saw a copy of the Telegram-Gazette,” said Kerry McCormack. “
I happened to be in that morning so this guy kept staring at me.
So I picked up the paper and opened it up and said yes, it’s me. I put it down, picked up my coffee and said goodbye.”
Kerry McCormack has been saying hi a lot more than she’s been saying goodbye since meeting Steven Tyler at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
Kerry works as a receptionist for the Patriots, and after a brief conversation with Tyler’s fiance Erin Brady. Erin told Tyler about Kerry’s fancy Patriots scarf.
“A few minutes later she went in the back and came out with Steven Tyler and said this is what I was telling you about,” said Kerry “This is the scarf. Of course I was a little star struck as anybody would be. Next thing you know I’m holding a conversation with Steven Tyler, He said, “Did you make it. How did you do it.?”
Tyler of course is known for his love of shiny things. He asked Kerry if he could wear her handmade scarf while he sang the National Anthem … On national TV … in front of a sell-out crowd at Gillette Stadium.
“First it was, Wow, people are actually going to be seeing my artwork and my little creative genius,” said Kerry “Something I did for myself, I said wow, there are going to be thousands of people watching. Then all of a sudden we all realized that they’re doing the National Anthem on TV. And that just made it absolutely insane.”
Since the now famous performance Kerry’s phone and computer have been working overtime. Email has come from as far away as Ireland. There have been interview requests, and of course requests to replicate her famous scarf.
Kerry would like the chance to make just one more scarf, and donate it to a very worthy cause.
“For me being a life long Pats fan, this is my moment to give back and give to someone,” said Kerry. “Myra Kraft was an amazing woman. She gave so much of herself. I still don’t believe that people understand how much she gave.”
“If this is my time, my shining 15 minutes of fame where I can do something to help people in need, I would much rather do that.”
Just to let you know, Kerry McCormack is an artist. She has a Facebook page called, ‘Kerry’s Kreations’. A lifelong Patriots fan Kerry did get Steven Tyler’s autograph on her now famous scarf.
And chances are since Tylers rendition of the National Anthem drew so much attention, the attention spilled over to Kerry’s scarf.
A nice story, about a nice person, trying to do something nice with her 15 minutes of fame.
