Haagen-Dazs Gelato a pleasant surprise.
I've recently been eating a lot of Haagen -Dazs ice cream, in part because they offer single serving cups, which allow me to try a new flavor before investing in a pint.
The most recent addition to the brand is a line of Italian Gelatos including sea salt caramel, cappuccino, limoncello, vanilla bean, black cherry amaretto, dark chocolate chip and stracciatella.
I don't know much about the differences between gelato and ice cream except that gelato is generally made with more milk than cream and less egg yolks.
I chose sea salt caramel because it's the only flavor other than vanilla bean offered in a single serving cup.
The treat is describes as sea salt caramel gelato with a ribbon of sea salt caramel.
I absolutely loved everything about this treat. The ice cream is silky and light and sweet, but not too sweet.
The ribbon is thick, but not chewy and you get a hint of saltiness, but it's not overpowering.
This is definitely a decadent treat and I couldn't even manage to finish the small half cup portion I purchased. It's the kind of ice cream you can savor after a nice meal. Just a few bites is enough.
I give it five scoops and I can't wait to try the other flavors, especially limoncello since I love all things lemon.
