Famous for producing The Big E every fall, the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield has a year-round calendar filled with events for visitors of all ages and interests, and you can click here for a full overview. Here are just a few:

1. 5K Grape Chase Road Race – April 13, 10:00 a.m. start for walkers, 11:00 a.m. start for runners. This race begins and ends at Eastern States Exposition Food Court. The cost to register is $20 before April 10, and $25 the day of the race. Register at www.accu-specracing.com. Proceeds benefit the West Springfield Public Library Building Fund and New England Farm Winery education. Visit www.TheBigE.com and www.TableandVine.com for more information.

2. A Taste of Table & Vine – April 13, 5 to 8 p.m. Get ready for great spirits and delicious food at this gathering which features 300 wines (including Lobster Reef Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Clos de los Siete, Ca Montini Pinot Grigio and many more), 50 select craft beers and 20 select spirits. There will also be an array of appetizers and entrees on hand from local restaurants Lattitude, The Monte Carlo, Hofbrau Joe’s German Steakhouse and Storrowton Tavern, in addition to items from Big Y World Class Markets. Tickets are $45 per person before April 10, and $50 at the door. For $75 per person, guests can also meet vintners in the Connoisseurs’ Room and sample wines, champagnes and spirits such as Cristal Champagne, Beringer Private Reserve, Jack Daniels Single Barrel and other distinguished beverages selected by Table & Vine. Oysters will also be served. Proceeds benefit the West Springfield Public Library Building Fund and New England Farm Winery education. 3. A Day Away in the Past (Storrowton school vacation program) – April 17 & 18, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Let your kids time travel and see life two centuries back when they participate in these one-day programs taking place at the Storrowton Village Museum. Children age 7-12 dress in period costumes (supplied) and experience life as a 19th century youth, engaging in activities such as candle dipping, quill pen calligraphy, blacksmithing and fun and unique craft projects and games. Pre-registration is required. Call 413-205-5051 for information and registration. The cost is $40 per child.

4. Northeast Reining Horse Show – April 26-28, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Coliseum. This event, new to Eastern States this year, is the premier reining horse competition in Massachusetts. It’s the fastest growing and most exciting equine sport in the world. Watch as experienced riders of all levels put their horses through their paces, while cheering each other on and enjoying a common, yet individual, goal of improving their horsemanship and their horses. The show offers multiple levels of horse divisions, ensuring equal representation. Free admission.

5. Big East Regional Youth & Jackpot Show – May 3-5. The Big East Youth and Beef Jackpot Show brings together over 100 youth agriculturalists and their animals for a weekend of showing, selling and educational programming. The show is run by a committee of volunteers and a portion of the funds raised are used to provide youth awards. A “Scotch Auction” (penny auction) will be held until Saturday, May 5 and anyone willing to donate items should contact 413-205-5011 or email aginfo@thebige.com. The three-day event hosts the “Something for Everyone Beef Sale” on Friday, May 4, with an animal preview from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A variety of beef cattle will be on display starting Friday, May 4 at 1:00 p.m. and ending Sunday, May 6, upon the conclusion of the show. Admission is free.
