Boston native Mark Wahlberg calls Boston Marathon attack 'disgusting'

Wahlberg, the youngest of nine kids, grew up in the Dorchester section of Boston, where an 8-year-old Dorchester boy was killed while watching the Boston Marathon.

BOSTON — Actor and Boston native Mark Wahlberg called Monday's fatal bombings at the Boston Marathon "disgusting" and "horrible" as he attended the New York premiere of his new film, "Pain and Gain."

"Thoughts and prayers with my hometown Boston today," Wahlberg tweeted late Monday night.

"It's horrible man. It's (expletive) disgusting, man. I just – I'm very upset," Wahlberg, 41, told the Associated Press while attending the movie premiere.

Three people were killed in two back-to-back explosions near the finish line of the marathon, including 8-year-old Martin Richard of Dorchester, the neighborhood where Wahlberg and his eight siblings were raised.

"You try to put everything in God's hands and whatever happens here is out of our control and there's a bigger picture. But it's still obviously upsetting," the actor said.

Actor-director Ben Affleck, who grew up in neighboring Cambridge, tweeted, "Such a senseless and tragic day. My family and I send our love to our beloved and resilient Boston."

Dropkick Murphy's, the Boston-area Celtic punk band whose music has become synonymous with the Hub, tweeted, "Our thoughts and prayers are homeward bound tonight. God bless from DKM!"
