Trainer and wellness expert Jillian Michaels has launched her first ever “Maximize Your Life” tour, and you might feel like a big loser if you don’t get tickets for her appearance on Thursday at The Bushnell in Hartford.

One of the leading health and fitness experts in the country, she has appeared on 11 seasons of NBC’s The Biggest Loser," seen in more than 90 countries throughout the world. Her tour visits 35 cities in the United States and Canada.

Michaels considers “Biggest Loser” a “life-or-death intervention,” though she says she is “usually in the business of inspiration and information.”

Speaking from Los Angeles, Michaels said the intervention is necessary “when you’re dealing with people who are killing themselves with food.”

On tour she will be in tour mode, not her “tough love” mode from the NBC reality show. “I’ll always be honest with people, not dumb-down or candy-coat things,” she said. “I tell people, ‘This is where you are responsible for your life; the good news is you can create new circumstances that are far more healthy and happy.”

Because she wants to help people, Michaels said she “must give them the truth.”

Michaels uses her live program to help motivate people to achieve what they want and to believe they are worth it and capable of achieving it. She takes audience members on a journey of self-exploration and gives them tools to achieve their goals.

During the evening, the fitness expert and wellness coach for more than 20 years will show audiences how to harness their potential, kick-start their goals and live an exceptional life – sharing her keys to health, success and happiness.

Learn about weight loss, cultivating your passions and embracing your uniqueness to create a purpose-filled life, redefining your self-image, creating a winning attitude, establishing support, building will power and maximizing productivity.

Audience members will learn the science of shedding pounds, the impact of hormones on weight loss and how to bring them back into balance. She demonstrates the how, what and why of workouts, sharing her most effective methods of burning fat and calories. She will teach them how to shift their attitude, behavior and mindset to maximize their life.

“You will have the skills, tools and information to employ when you bring action to your intentions,” Michaels said.

Without those tools, one is on a path for disaster, just like going into business without a business plan, she said.

Those who have a difficult time losing weight or keeping weight off need “to do the deeper work,” Michaels said, noting that weight loss is simply making smarter food choices and watching the calories that are consumed. What is difficult is identifying why food is used as a defense or coping mechanism and changing repetitious compulsive behavior.

Once overweight herself, Michaels said, “Anybody who feels stuck in a rut or wants to have, be or do more but can’t figure out how to get out of your own way, come to the show.”

There are still a limited number of VIP tickets available. VIP patrons are invited to stay after the show for a question-and-answer session with Michaels. They will also receive a four-week free trial to her online training program and total weight-loss solution and a surprise takeaway item.

“Jillian is clearly a very effective communicator around issues of health and people’s mental attitudes, as she has demonstrated on television,” said Ric Waldman, director of programs at The Bushnell. “Her goal in planning this 35-city tour was to connect personally with people who only know her through television. We saw this as a winning formula—a chance to bring a popular entertainer to Hartford and to present a show that will help people change their lives.” “The name of this tour, ‘Maximize Your Life,’ says it all. Jillian’s goal is, in her words, ‘to help you begin your transformation into the best you that you can be,’” Waldman said. “The format of the show will be very interactive, with people from the audience sharing their stories and struggles on stage. If people are inspired by her television appearances, it makes sense that they will be even more inspired after meeting Jillian up close and personal.” Michaels owned and operated a sports medicine facility where she worked as a physical therapy aid under the physiatrists, physical therapists and chiropractors.

She has 17 years of martial arts practice in Muay Thai and Akarui-Do, in which she holds a black belt. Since 1993, she has held personal training certificates from the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association and the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. She is Kettlebell Concepts certified and has developed a continuing education series for trainers with AFAA and has a nutrition and wellness consultant certificate with the American Fitness Professionals and Associates.

Michaels is the author of such books as “Master Your Metabolism,” “Unlimited: How to Build an Exceptional Life” and “Slim for Life: My Insider Secrets to Simple, Fast, and Lasting Weight Loss.”

She lives with her family in Los Angeles. She enjoys traveling and getting involved in charitable organizations including the American Cancer Society, Stand Up 2 Cancer, NFL Play 60, the USO, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the Clinton Global Initiative.
