The 32nd Annual LGBT Parade and Pride Event is sponsored by NoHo Pride, a Northampton-based nonprofit organization.
NORTHAMPTON — With a forecast that calls for sunny skies and temperatures reaching into the 70s, Saturday's annual gay pride event in Northampton is expected to draw crowds, according to organizers.
The 32nd Annual LGBT Parade and Pride Event will be held from noon to 5:30 p.m. at the 3 County Fairgrounds in Northampton. The free event, sponsored by Noho Pride, is open to everyone and includes free parking.
The theme of this year's event, which will feature food, music and a proclamation by Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz, is "Our Journey is not Complete," according to event organizers.
"Whenever the weather is good, we can count on critical mass," J. Mary Sorrell, a spokeswoman for Noho Pride, told the Daily Hampshire Gazette.
Marriage equality – the right for same-sex couples to legally marry and attain the same rights and benefits extended to heterosexual couples – is expected to be among the issues presented at the pride event.
The 1.1-mile parade begins at noon at Hampton Avenue, wending its way along Old South, Main and Fair streets before reaching the fairgrounds.
This year's speakers include international human rights activist Billy Urich, with events ranging from drag performances to live bands and more.
