UNCASVILLE, Conn – The term “classic rock” has been diluted in recent years to categorize any FM-friendly band from the era before CDs and mp3 files.

But the music Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band played before a sold-out crowd at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday night was truly classic and there was no doubt the band rocked.

He kicked off his 21-song set with “Long Twin Silver Line” from the 1980 album “Against the Wind,” followed by a cover of Otis Clay’s “Tryin’ to Live My Life Without You.”

Seated and playing acoustic guitar, Seger and sax player Alto Reed offered up a stirring take of “Mainstreet” from the “Night Moves” album.

Throughout the two-hour concert, Seger was in fine form. Two days shy of his 68th birthday, the Michigan rocker’s distinctive raspy vocals have lost none of their power or charm.

Backed by the razor sharp 11-piece Silver Bullet Band, Seger provided an overview of his impressive career with performances of such hits as "Fire Down Below," “Old Time Rock and Roll” and “Like a Rock.”

He provided insight into some of his better known songs, informing the crowd that the hit “We’ve Got Tonight” was penned in 1975 under the title “This Old House.”

The concert was more than just a stroll down memory lane. Seger performed a strong new composition, "All the Roads," which will be included on an album coming out in the fall.

The emotional highpoint of the night was a rendition of “Turn the Page,” which brought the 10,000 fans to their feet.

He closed his set with a searing “Katmandu,” which showcased Reed, the four-piece Motor City Horns, and guitarist Rob McNelley.

Seger returned for two sets of encores, playing four of his best known numbers: “Against the Wind,” “Hollywood Nights,” “Night Moves” and the appropriate “Rock and Roll Never Forgets.”

Pennsylvania's Badlees opened for Seger. Their high-energy 30-minute set included "Hindsightseeing" from their 2002 album "Renew," as well as a new track, "John the Relevator."
