The classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical will be performed on May 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and May 12 at 2 p.m.
SPRINGFIELD - The curtain has risen on a community theater production of "The Sound of Music."
Featuring a cast of veteran actors and auditioned members of the community, the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical about love and new beginnings will be hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Society of Greater Springfield on May 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and May 12 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, and $12 for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased at the door, but reservations are recommended. Call the church business administrator, (413) 736-2324 or email Marie@UUSpringfield.org for reservations.
The director and choreographer is Kathleen Delaney, a veteran actress, director and choreographer who has enjoyed a long career performing on Broadway, on national tours and on television. Delaney, who is closely affiliated with many area theater groups, is known for her creative vision and for her ability to inspire excellent performances from her casts.
The music director is Elisabeth Weber, who brings many years of experience working in community musical theater. Weber works as music director for the church; she holds a master's degree in organ performance from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati and a bachelor's degree in sacred music and organ performance from Lebanon Valley College.
Lead actors are Jonathan Trecker (Capt. Georg Von Trapp) and Kate Johnson (Maria Rainer), two highly regarded community theater veterans.
