Weldon cites a wide range of influences on her music, from Bon Iver to Bob Dylan to Elliot Smith to Cat Power
To the casual music fan, The Elevens in Northampton probably seems simply like a place where local original bands ply their trade, where you can catch a DJ on certain nights, or a place to shoot a game of pool.
And while this is true much of the time, the venue also often brings in out-of-state talent to grace the stage there. Such is the case this weekend when Julia Weldon arrives to perform songs off her new record “Light Is A Ghost” which is due to be released later this year. The 12-track compilation features the gamut of Weldon's talents, from songwriting to guitar playing. She will be performing songs from that latest venture, as well as older tunes during her east coast tour which stops at The Elevens on Friday.
Weldon is a New York City-based singer/songwriter. She regularly headlines at renown venues such as the Knitting Factory and Mercury Lounge, as well as touring up and down the east coast. She also recently played Chicago’s 2008 Decibelle Festival and the 2010 Women’s Experimental Music Festival in Brooklyn. Her first eponymous album was a gritty project that embraced the DIY ethic, but she is currently putting the finishing touches on a a fully produced album with producer Saul MacWiliams.
Weldon, who brings a pop aesthetic to acoustic indie music, cites a wide range of influences on her music, from Bon Iver to Bob Dylan to Elliot Smith to Cat Power. The Elevens is at 140 Pleasant St.
