Jon Stewart biographer set to speak in Amherst

Author Bruce Watson will discuss his new e-biography of "Daily Show" star Jon Stewart at the Jones Library.

AMHERST - Author Bruce Watson will discuss his new e-biography of "Daily Show" star Jon Stewart at the Jones Library at 7 p.m. on May 23.

Watson is the author of “Freedom Summer,” “Sacco and Vanzetti” and “Bread and Roses.”

Reading, music party


NORTHAMPTON – The Greenfield-based Shape & Nature Press will host a summertime reading and music party at Bishop’s Lounge in from 4:30 to 9 p.m. on June 2.

The party, which celebrates local writers and presses, is a fund-raiser for the press.
The cost is $10 at the door and includes 20 raffle tickets to use at the raffle table.

Participants include writers Jedediah Berry, Corwin Ericson Mary Koncel, Forbes Library writer-in-residenceSusan Stinson and Amy Dryansky among the list. Northampton Poet Laureate and children’s book author Richard Michaelson will speak about the importance of “reading local.”

Writers unbuttoned

EASTHAMPTON - Easthampton City Arts+ presents another UNBUTTONED, An Evening of Spoken Word June 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Luthier’s Co-Op, 108 Cottage St.
Janice Beetle author of “Divine Renovations: A Carpenter, His Soul Mate and Their Story of Love and Loss” is the featured speaker.

Six open-mic slots for five-minute long readings are open to participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. The sign-up sheet will be available at 6:45 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
