Amherst native Michelle Chamuel, 27, has earned a spot in the coveted Top 6 on NBC's "The Voice."

Competitors Sarah Simmons and Judith Hill were sent home last night, but Chamuel advance on in the competition.

Chamuel, who moved to eastern Massachusetts as a child and graduated from Wellesley High School in 2004, has performed such numbers as Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl"), Bruno Mars' "Grenade" and Pink's "Just Give Me a Reason."

She has been mentored by hip hop star Usher during her run on "The Voice."

After advancing to the Top 6, Chamuel tweeted, "Thank you so much for voting me into the top 6 and for your incredible support. I’ll keep doing my best.... Big thank you to my coach, @Usher. It’s a gift to be on your team. As you say, 'teamwork makes the dream work.'"

The six "Voice" contestants will perform live on NBC next Monday at 8 p.m., with another elimination round next Tuesday.

Before trying out for the show, Chamuel was the lead singer of the band called Ella Riot in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The University of Michigan graduate now lives in the Boston area.

Chamuel is not the first contestant on "The Voice" with ties to the area. Sunderland's Michelle Brooks-Thompson competed on the popular show last fall.
