Western Mass foodies ahead of the curve.
According to the Associated Press, the Canton-based Dunkin’ Donuts chain will introduce a new breakfast sandwich on June 7.
The sandwich, fried eggs and bacon between a split glazed doughnut, was apparently taste tested somewhere out there in Eastern Massachusetts to much acclaim.
But, wait, doesn’t this “Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich” sound a bit familiar to foodies in Western Massachusetts, home to the food ingestion challenge that arrives every fall in the form of the Big E?
In 2009, the Eastern States Exposition introduced, to much acclaim, its “Craz-E Burger.“
Its makeup? A grilled cheeseburger top with bacon and sandwiched between a glazed donut.
The “Craz-E Burger” is now an established offering at the Big E, right along with its pizza-sized cream puffs, chocolate chip cookies and assorted vendor offers ranging from fried onion rings, baked potatoes, stuffed with goodies like a Santa stocking, and even fried Oreos.
When the Craz-E Burger debuted, The Republican published the following recipe to make your own, particularly if you had a hankering off season.
Substitute fried eggs for the meat and you don’t have to wait for June 7 to try Dunkin’s not-so-new sandwich concept.
Craz-E Burger recipe
