Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson has returned to Capitol Music Group and is currently recording and producing his 11th solo studio album.
Wilson has been joined at Hollywood’s Ocean Way Studios by guitar icon Jeff Beck and former Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine and David Marks, as well as session all-stars Don Was and Jim Keltner.
“When I watched Jeff Beck perform ‘Surf’s Up’ to honor me at the MusiCares Person of the Year event in 2005, I knew I had to find a way to work with him," Wilson said in a news statement. "He absolutely blew my mind and we’ve been friends ever since. Jeff’s incredible guitar playing is exactly what I want for my new album and I’m also looking forward to performing live with him soon.”
Members of Wilson’s longtime touring band, including Jeffrey Foskett, Scott Bennett, Paul Mertens, Darian Sahanaja, and Probyn Gregory, have also participated in the sessions.
Wilson took part in a 50th anniversary Beach Boys tour last year with Jardine, Marks, Mike Love and Bruce Johnston. The reunion tour ended on a sour note with Love deciding to continue to perform in the future as the Beach Boys with just Johnston and other back-up musicians.
The decision led to the perception that Love had "fired" Wilson, Marks and Jardine from the band they founded with Love.
Wilson will be performing select shows this summer with Jardine and Marks. Those shiows are Atlantic City, NY, July 20; Pittsburgh, PA, July 21; Interlochen, MI, July 23; Kettering, OH, July 25; Highland Park, IL, July 26; Apple Valley MN, July 27; and
Los Angeles, Oct 20.
