Michelle MurrayHOLYOKE – The Women Business Owners Alliance of the Pioneer Valley will hold its 19th annual Women’s Night of Comedy on March 29 at the Log Cabin Banquet & Meeting House.
The “fun-raising” event will feature top comediennes during an elegant dinner and basket raffle. This year’s headliners are due to include Patty Ross, who performs regularly at the Comedy Store, Laugh Factory and Improvisation in Los Angeles; she is a past nominee for an American Comedy Award and has opened for comedians Jackie Mason and Pat Cooper.
Last year, the event raised $9,000 and attracted 375 women; it benefited Square One, Girls Inc. and Joy of Jasper. This year, proceeds of the event will benefit Safe Passage, which provides services to victims of domestic violence in Hampshire County, Dress for Success, which provides practical assistance, including business-appropriate clothing, to disadvantaged women entering the workforce, and Rick’s Place, a program based in Wilbraham that provides free facilitated group support for grieving children and their families.
Michelle Murray, chair of the Women’s Night of Comedy Committee and a licensed mental health counselor, says, “Humor and helping others truly bring people together. We share similar laughable moments in life, as well as the common bond of wanting to make life better for people in our varied communities. We encourage people who want to support women and girls to attend this great event.”
