The DVD is a perfect companion piece to the classic 1984 film "Stop Making Sense."
The Talking Heads, “Chronology” (Eagle Vision). 3 ½ stars
You can’t tell a book by it cover and that’s correct when looking at the new Talking Heads’ DVD as well.
What abysmal cover art. The audience looks like they were pulled from a Lynyrd Skynyrd outtake.
Thankfully, the music is a lot better than the packaging.
Consider a few highlights of the 18-song set: “Psycho Killer” from CBGBs in New York in 1975; “Take Me to the River,” from “American Bandstand” in 1979; and “Burning Down the House” from “Late Night With David Letterman.” All those and much, much more. A perfect companion piece to “Stop Making Sense,” Jonathan Demme’s masterful 1984 film that’s widely considered one of the best rock films of his generation.
