There are many reasons why we love Holyoke, but one reason that is prominent for many people is the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Parade weekend, and the many events preceding it, is a time for Holyokers of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds to come together and celebrate a rich part of our city’s history.

As Holyoke’s new mayor, I would like to welcome the thousands of spectators who come from far and wide each year to be a part of our festivities.

I would be remiss if I did not thank the many hardworking volunteers, Parade Committee members, and city employees who put countless hours into the planning of this weekend. It is their dedication and loyalty to Holyoke that helps make this parade reach its level of grandeur each year.

I am excited to market Holyoke as the arts and innovation capital of Western Massachusetts, and I believe that events like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade make Holyoke an attractive place to live, work, and play.

The parade is representative not only of Holyoke’s Irish history, but is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together to embrace the diversity that our great city has to offer.

On this weekend, everyone is Irish, and I encourage everyone to celebrate the brighter days in Holyoke’s future!

Alex B. Morse is mayor of the city of Holyoke.
