Tuesday night's ouster was based on a combination of judges' scores and viewer votes following performances on Monday night. Audience voters spared Gladys Knight, who had received a 20 out of 30 from judges on Monday. Shepherd had received a 21 from judges on Monday.
A teary Shepherd told viewers to pursue goals no matter how frightening they may appear. She thanked her professional partner, Val Chmerkovskiy. "Thank you all. I had the most marvelous time," she told viewers.
Shepherd joins previously ousted contestants Jack Wagner and Martina Navratilova.
The nine remaining season 14 contestants are Melissa Gilbert of "Little House on the Prairie," "Family Matters" co-star Jaleel White, "Extra" host Maria Menounos, Motown singer Gladys Knight, Welsh mezzo soprano Katherine Jenkins, Disney star Roshon Fegan, Green Bay Packer's wide receiver Donald Driver, singer Gavin DeGraw and Telenovela actor William Levy.
Not present on Tuesday's results program was Gilbert, who suffered a concussion from an accident during Monday's live broadcast.
