City Council approval is required to establish a new city job.
HOLYOKE – The City Council on Tuesday will be asked to establish a new city position of director of art, culture and tourism.
Ward 1 Councilor Gladys Lebron-Martinez filed an order for the new post on behalf of Mayor Alex B. Morse.
Morse said said Monday the job would pay $40,000 a year and was necessary to coordinate the city’s growing arts scene.
“We have a lot of art events happening in the city. A lot of it is disjointed,” Morse said.
Establishing a new municipal position requires City Council approval. Morse discussed such a position during his campaign for mayor last year.
The council meeting is at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Morse said he expected the council would refer the order to its Ordinance Committee.
