Dan Williams and Kim Zachary had hosted morning radio shows for nearly 17 years.
Veteran radio show hosts Dan Williams and Kim Zachary made the leap to television this morning, though “40 In The Morning With Dan & Kim” could use a little fine tuning.
Dressed casually and seated at a desk away from the rest of the WGGB-TV, abc40, morning crew, the couple bantered in the familiar style they had on WHYN AM and FM radio for nearly 17 years.
They introduced feature segments and interacted often via split screen with news reporter Julia Dunn and meteorologist Dan Brown - even though both were in the same studio. The closing minutes of the broadcast with the on-air personalities seated together seemed far more natural.
Also, large radio studio microphones - apparently there to remind viewers that Dan and Kim were once on radio - proved to be unwelcome and unsightly props.
Overall, Dan and Kim seemed comfortable in the TV setting and their familiar voices will likely win some new morning viewers over the abc40, which has lagged behind WWLP-TV, Channel 22, in the ratings for years.
Williams ended the broadcast by accurately describing the couple's first day as a success, adding he could not wait for Day 2. It will be interesting to see how the series evolves.
Radio’s “Dan and Kim Morning Show” originally began on WHYN-AM in 1995 before switching over to the FM band two years later. WHYN owner Clear Channel Media and Entertainment ended the show on Jan. 19. The couple's contract with Clear Channel ended March 31.
WGGB News Director Jim Tortora approached Williams and Zachary about taking part in a revamped morning TV show when their radio show was canceled.
