Political commentator Rachel Maddow has been nominated for a Grammy award, in the spoken word field for the audio version of her book, "Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power."
The MSNBC television host is up against other big names in the category: Bill Clinton, Ellen DeGeneres and Janis Ian. The ceremony will air live on CBS on Feb. 10.
Maddow's ties to the region are well-known: she formerly worked in local radio at WNRX,WRSI and WHMP before moving on to Air America. After filling in for Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, the network awarded Maddow her own show in 2008. On September 18, 2012, the show hit a milestone with 2.04 million viewers.
Maddow and her partner, Susan Mikula, split their time between homes in Manhattan and Western Massachusetts.
