Scoopful of ice cream: Holday Mint McFlurry a total disaster.
I love the holidays. Christmas lights give houses a warm glow, candy canes make for a perfect afternoon treat and everyone seems to be a bit jollier. Also with Christmas comes Christmas themed food and of course ice cream.
McDonald's is offering up the Holiday Mint McFlurry along with the Egg Nog milkshake this holiday season.
Egg Nog isn't my thing, but the mint ice cream caught my attention.
I picked up a snack size McFlurry a few days ago for lunch and oh, how I wish I hadn't.
On the website this treat is described as"swirls of reduced fat soft serve vanilla ice cream blended with peppermint candy pieces and our signature mint syrup."
The treat looked innocent enough. Typical vanilla ice cream with bits of red and green peppermint candy.
After the first whiff I knew something was off. There was a buttery smell to the ice cream which was not at all appealing.
I took a bite and the buttery taste punched me in the mouth. I've read a lot of reviews of this ice cream and while most people are in agreement with me that the candy tastes off (we will b get to that in a bit) no one really seems to mind the ice cream.
There is a chance I just got a bad batch of syrup, but something about this mint syrup tasted gross.
As for the peppermint candy bits, they were a complete disaster. They are not soft, but not crunchy either. I guess I was expecting the hard candy crunch of a candy cane, but instead I got these waxy little bits of candy that tasted more like white chocolate then peppermint.
Overall the entire treat was a disappointment and after about three bites I was done.
I give it no scoops since I'm honestly not sure if my treat was prepared incorrectly or if it really is that bad.
