MONSON – The Arts Council talent show “Western Mass Performs,” originally scheduled for Feb. 9, has been rescheduled.
The show fell victim to the great storm Nemo, as did so many other activities scheduled for that weekend. The show will be held on March 3 at 2 p.m. at the Granite Valley Middle School.
The show features 24 acts competing for $1,750 in prizes, and in addition a special guest performer. Christina Richard, who has been a performer in every talent show since its inception, could not audition this year, because she was performing on audition weekend in Carnegie Hall. She will bring her delicate piano artistry to close the show.
The Arts Council is also offering door prizes to ticketholders, to be drawn by lot at the end of the show. Three Monson artists have donated works of art for the prizes. Peter Barnett, a painter of landscapes and portraits, is offering a giclee from an original oil painting, “Goldenrod Days.” Donna Beck, an artist working in her own handmade papers, is offering a set of four Christmas ornaments with a musical theme. Jerry Wilson is offering a ceramic piece, a lovely bowl with a blue interior glaze and earth-toned exterior.
The talent show is a fund-raiser for the Scholarship Committee of the Arts Council. Proceeds from the show will help support the group’s annual scholarship award to a Monson high-school senior who has shown a strong interest in the arts.
