Lambesis was taken into custody on Tuesday in Oceanside, Calif. after he solicited help from an undercover detective, according to a NBC affiliate in San Diego
Police had previously learned Lambesis was seeking someone who could commit the slaying, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.
As I Lay Dying put out its sixth album, "Awakened" in 2012. Lambesis is a founding member of the band, which was formed in San Diego.
The band recently announced it would tour with Western Massachusetts rockers Killswitch Engage
