The finale had its share of surprises.
Dunder Mifflin Paper Co. lives on, but "The Office" has closed shop.
The NBC workplace comedy, set in Scranton, Pa., aired its finale Thursday to end an 8-year run.
As expected, office manager Dwight wed tempestuous co-worker Angela. He had abruptly proposed to her on last week's episode.
Pam and Jim decided to leave Dunder Mifflin and Scranton, headed for new lives in Austin, Texas.
And as a welcome surprise, Michael Scott returned in the person of Steve Carell, the star of "The Office" until departing the series two seasons ago. Michael stepped in at the last minute as Dwight's best man.
"The Office" premiered in 2005. It was based on the British comedy of the same name, which starred and was co-created by Ricky Gervais.
