SHELBURNE FALLS – Scenes for "The Judge" with Robert Downey Jr. will be shot along Bridge Street and other area spots during a two-and-a-half week period next month.
The Shelburne Board of Selectmen approved a filming permit and local production schedule at their May 14 meeting. Among the locations is Baker Pharmacy and Bridge Street store fronts.
A funeral procession will be staged and Bridge Street will be wet down to simulate rain, according to details from the production schedule, which calls for outdoor filming on June 7.
The Board of Selectmen has received 28 or more letters from local businesses who
support the movie production. There were also three letters of concern from local businesses.
Shelburne Selectman Joseph J. Judd, who serves as municipal liaison on the film, has said the producers have shown the "highest regard" for the citizens and businesses.
In "The Judge," Downey will star as a successful lawyer who returns to his hometown for his mother's funeral only to discover that his estranged father (Robert Duvall), the town's judge, is suspected of murder. The comedy-drama also stars Vera Farmiga ("Up in the Air"), as well as Vincent D'Onofrio ("Law & Order: Criminal Intent") and Billy Bob Thornton ("Sling Blade").
Boston Casting held an open casting call for "The Judge" on Saturday.
When filming wraps in Shelburne Falls, the production will move on to Worcester and Boston.
"The Judge" is a co-production between the star's Team Downey and director David Dobkin's Big Kid Pictures.
