The National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias is dedicated to serving individuals affected by ectodermal dysplasias.
While the Boston Strong concert scheduled for the TD Garden on May 30 remains the focus for music-based fundraising this month, an upcoming local benefit celebrates an anniversary with a new feature that is sure to thrill guitar aficionados.
The Fourth Annual Blues for a Cure concert will be held on June 23 at Crossroads on Route 20 in Palmer. The event benefits the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias.
The annual event is organized by David LaValley, a local blues musician. The National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias is dedicated to serving individuals affected by ectodermal dysplasias.
According to LaValley, who has a son affected by the illness, the ectodermal dysplasias are a group of more than 150 syndromes, causing the hair, nails, skin, teeth and sweat glands to develop or function abnormally.
This year’s event will feature a variety of local and regional acts including Boston-based Ten Foot Polecats and Dogs of Rhythm from Vermont, along with local bands Cold Shot and Blue Devil Bluez (both from Westfield), The Hosmer Bros., The Mark Nomad Band, The Reprobates Blues Band and Full Throttle.
The event will include a bonus offering this year with the raffling off of a custom guitar.
“The guitar was made by Phat Guitars from Virginia and it will be raffled off online via their non-profit company Rocking the Cure.com,” LaValley said. “People interested in entering or donating to this raffle can go to www.rockingthecure.com and click on our Blues for the Cure page. They may enter as many times as they’d like. The guitar was custom painted with a blues theme by a talented young artist from Georgia named Joey Tubb and valued at $2,000.”
The drawing for the guitar will be held at the day-long concert.
The event runs from noon until 9 p.m. and will be held at the Crossroads outdoor pavilion. Advanced tickets are available by calling David LaValley at (413) 731-6433. Advanced tickets are $15 each or $25 for a pair. Tickets will be available at the door.
