Like NBC and the NFL, Madonna is not happy that singer M.I.A. made an obscene gesture during her Super Bowl halftime performance.
Madonna told radio listeners on Friday she did not know about the incident until after her performance had concluded.
"I wasn’t happy about it ... I understand it's punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity. It seemed negative. It's one of the those things, it's such a teenager, irrelevant thing to do ... what was the point? It was just out of place," Madonna said during an interview on "On Air with Ryan Seacrest."
It was during a performance of Madonna’s new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin.’” that M.I.A. stuck up her middle finger and appeared to sing, “I don’t give a (expletive).”
The halftime performance was watched by more than 114 million Americans.
M.I.A.'s middle finger drew as much attention as Madonna's performance and prompted quick apologies by the NFL and NBC.
Brian McCarthy, spokesman for the NFL, which produced Madonna’s halftime show, has said the "obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing and we apologize to our fans,”
